BADMINTON IS GREAT (BIG) – Education Programme

One of the strategic objectives of BADMINTON England is to focus on developing schools activities in line with BADMINTON England’s Whole Sport Plan targets of increasing participation; improving awareness; producing pathways; & improving performance.

From a badminton perspective, the focus is on providing support and opportunities to meet these aims through:-

  • Strategic planning – working with PDM’s ensuring badminton features in their development plans.
  • School liaison – BIG & Bisi programmes, schools affiliations, taster sessions, inter schools competitions.
  • Out of schools activities – setting up after school clubs, new clubs, providing coach support .
  • School to community –setting up school / club links, club accreditation programme and liaising with County Sports Partnerships in offering opportunities,
  • Coaching & Leadership – Organising courses on our Coach Education programme, Badminton Junior Helper Award, training in delivering BIG.
  • Raising standards – Linking with the county Schools and Youth cell and squad structure, the Gifted and Talented programme, Talent Identification and the World Futures programme.

Teachers Course.

On Monday 1st October 2007 at Bournemouth Boy's School we organised a first ever "Teacher's Course" in Dorset  at a very favourable cost to the Partnership Development Managers.   The cost of this course normally would be £180 however, South West Counties Badminton Association received a very favourable grant in order that the course was made available to as many teachers' as possible

With the resources which included Big,1,2 and 3 the cost was £40.

Jo Hughes was the Badminton England Tutor and she delivered an excellent course throughout the day.
